Workshop: Sexualized discrimination and violence in the workplace University
What can I do if I experience or observe abusive behavior?
How can I avoid overstepping other people’s boundaries myself?
In this workshop, you will learn how you can contribute to a sexism-sensitive, non-violent working environment.

- Counseling and contact points at Ruhr-Universität Bochum
The workshop aims to promote a discrimination-sensitive and inclusive working environment at RUB by strengthening civil courage and solidarity. You will have the opportunity to develop appropriate communication and action strategies for dealing with situations in which sexualized harassment is observed or experienced. In addition, you will learn about the legal situation regarding sexualized discrimination in the workplace and the corresponding support structures at RUB.
The workshop will be held by Nina Bartholomé, who coordinates the project “Our Campus – Against Sexism at RUB!”
Goals
After this workshop…
- you have dealt with sexualized discrimination and violence in the university workplace.
- you know about the legal foundations and support structures
- you have a good basis for advocating for a discrimination-sensitive and inclusive working environment at RUB.
Please note: Comprehensive individual case counseling is not possible during the workshop. Please contact the Anti-Discrimination Office or the Equal Opportunities Office for confidential individual counseling.

Awareness networking meeting for RUB students
In close cooperation with the FSVK and the FSRs, the project Unser Campus – gegen Sexismus an der RUB! and the RUB Equal Opportunities Office have developed a handout dedicated to the topic of awareness in the planning and organization of student-organized events. From this process and the awareness workshops in the summer semester 2024, interest has arisen in further networking between students on the topic of awareness at RUB. This networking meeting will take place on December 3, 2024 from 3 pm to 6 pm. Interested parties can register until 02.12.2024 at unsercampus@rub.de.
Awareness workshops for student council members
In order to implement the theoretical contents of the “Awareness handout for student-organized events at the RUB” in practical FSR work, we have developed a two-part workshop format for you.
The workshops in the winter semester 24/25 will take place on 10.01.2025 and 17.01.2025, both from 14-19 hrs. If you are interested, you can register until 03.01.2025 at unsercampus@rub.de.
UNSER CAMPUS with a presentation at the conference “Our UNIverse: Empowered to speak up – A conference against abuse of power at universities” at TU Berlin
As part of the conference “Our UNIverse: Empowered to speak up – A conference against abuse of power at universities” (08.10.2024 and 09.10.2024 in Berlin), Nina Bartholomé (UNSER CAMPUS project coordinator) and Svenja Przigoda (UNSER CAMPUS project assistant) will give a presentation on 09.10.2024 and introduce UNSER CAMPUS, among other things. Awareness-Handreichung für Fachschaftsräte
In the last few months, an “Awareness Handout for Student Organized Events at the Ruhr University Bochum (RUB)” has been created in cooperation with “UNSER CAMPUS” and the Central Equal Opportunities Office, in close cooperation with the FSVK and the FSRs of the RUB. This is now available for download here in German and English. Awareness workshops will also be offered again this semester.

Workshop: My experiences as a woman* at university
Whether in WhatsApp chats, in lectures or at a student party: for most women*, border-crossing behaviour, sexualized harassment and various other experiences of discrimination are often part of everyday life at university. In this workshop by Nina Bartholomé (UNSER CAMPUS project coordinator), female students learn how to better communicate their boundaries and stand up for them.
When and where?
- When: Friday, April 26, 2024 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Where: Peer Quartier, just a few minutes‘ walk from the Unicenter. You can find directions here.
- Costs: participation is free of charge
- Catering: coffee, tea, fruit and small snacks will be available on site

Moodle course: “MeToo in Science”
In the self-study course “MeToo in Science” from the Marie Jahoda Center for International Gender Studies, you will learn interesting facts about sexism, intersectionality, discrimination and masculinity.
The course includes informational texts and interview podcasts, recommendations and strategies for action in the event of an emergency, helpful recommendations and handouts for low-discrimination teaching, as well as a detailed list of materials and literature for independent further training in various topics and issues relevant to a diverse university community.

Publication of the handout “Dealing with sensitive content in teaching”
After 1 1/2 years of work, the project “Inhaltshinweise RUB” now has a handout on how to deal with sensitive content in teaching. This can be downloaded free of charge here. You can also find more information there!
End of the exhibition of the “Catcall-free zone” initiative
Last Friday (8.12.2023) the exhibition of the initiative “Catcallfreie Zone” in cooperation with UNSER CAMPUS came to an end and was dismantled. MaJaC Colloquium | Lecture “Violence against women – building bridges between the disciplines” by Dr. Julia Habermann
As part of the MaJaC Colloquium, a lecture with Dr. Julia Habermann on “Violence against women – building bridges between disciplines” will take place on 13.12.2023 at 6 pm. Julia Habermann is a social scientist and has been researching the topic of violence against women for several years. Her award-winning dissertation on partner homicide was supervised at the RUB by Prof. Dr. Katja Sabisch and Prof. Dr. Tobias Singelstein. The MaJaC cordially invites you to attend!
